Central and local government approve the Decree of the Minister for Infrastructure, Paola De Micheli, releasing 906 million euros to fund 23 major port infrastructure works across Italy

7 August 2020 - The first instalment of 794 million euros is to be allocated to the top twenty priority projects which have completed the project preparation phase, comply with recent environmental sustainability and safety requirements and have already received partial funding.

The range of major infrastructure works set to benefit from this investment programme include the introduction of cold ironing in the Cruise and Ferry Terminal in Genoa (19.2 million euros) and in the Cruise Terminal in Savona (10.2 million euros), a system whereby vessels can plug into a shoreside electrical power grid at berth, whilst the main an auxiliary engines are switched off, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions and noise pollution, and an improvement in energy efficiency.

The second instalment of 112 million euros is to be allocated in September across the Investment Fund 2020.
