Hennebique redevelopment scheme

In disuse since the 1970s, the monumental Hennebique former grain silos is one of the 20th century’s most striking examples of industrial buildings. Strategically located in the heart of Genoa’s Old Port, overlooking both the sea and the historic centre, alongside the cruise terminal and walking distance from Piazza Principe railway station, the site is set to become a multi-service hub for residents, tourists and cruise passengers alike.  In addition, the renovation of the Hennebique silos represents the final step in the completion of the successful large-scale redevelopment of Genoa’s waterfront and will integrate seamlessly between the urban fabric and the cruise and tourist activities which characterise the area.

With the support of the University of Genoa and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, and the expansion of the range of possible alternative uses approved by the Liguria Region and the City of Genoa, on 21 June 2019 the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority published the call for tender for the concession to redevelop and manage the Hennebique site. On 15 February 2020, the bid submitted by the temporary association of economic operators Vitali S.p.A.- Roncello Capital S.r.l was officially selected, and the 90-year concession between the Port Authority and the consortium was signed on 10 December 2020. Upon the completion of the Technical and Economic Feasibility Study, the request for tender for construction works will be published by the second quarter of 2021.
