Savona Green port

In 2010, a 120 KW photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of Savona Palacrociere Terminal West, which, generating over 130 Mw h per year, almost covers 1/5 of its own energy needs. Photovoltaic panels were also installed on the Green Island landfill.
To exploit wind energy, a 20 kW aeolian plant was also installed in Savona port area.

A cold ironing system, which allows switching off ships engines thus reducing CO2 emissions, was installed in Vado Ligure port area.

Energy saving projects were also favoured by the implementation of new technologies: 9 luminous flux regulators were installed throughout the port areas, ensuring up to 25% saving. A LED lighting system prototype was installed in Savona: by replacing all traditional lamps, overall saving would reach 250 Mwh/year.

In order to respond to the increase of waste generated by ships, subsequent to the growth of cruise industry, the green island has been operating since 2013. It is situated alongside the breakwater, not far from the city, stretching on some 2,500 square metres and providing differentiation and disposal of a large variety of waste.
