The stops along the western coast of the Liguria sea, Genoa, Prà, Savona and Vado Ligure, give life to the largest port system in Italy as far as the total traffic (more than 62 million tonnes of freight and 4 million passengers transported yearly), number of sea connections (more than 150 lines towards 450 ports throughout the world), and quality of the complementary services offered (logistics services for freight, ship repairs and construction, IT systems for the supply chain) are concerned.
This is why the ports are a reference point for the production and consumption areas of Northern Italy, and today the aim is also to serve the regions of central Europe: in particular Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Overall, the ports have more than 100 mooring points, with water depths of up to 18 metres and more than 7 million square metres of operative areas and warehouses. Enlargement projects to improve the port structures even more are also in progress. More than 30 specialist terminals mean that all types of goods can be moved: solids and liquids in bulk, conventional goods, perishable goods, RO-RO and containers.
Being at the centre of the famous Liguria Riviera and close to important tourist destinations, the ports can also offer many opportunities for passengers: the largest cruise companies stop there during their Western Mediterranean itineraries, while many ferry lines connect the stops with the Tyrrhenian islands, Spain and North Africa.
