With the installation of the deck, the final highly challenging phases of the on-site delivery of the new Pionieri e Aviatori d'Italia Viaduct, across via Siffredi between Cornigliano and Sestri Ponente, reached its conclusion at 5am Wednesday morning 28 September. By the end of the year, the new facility is scheduled to open to heavy vehicles to/from the Port of Genoa without the weight restrictions prescribed by the previous bridge.
The viaduct deck, in metallic carpentry, 75 metres long and weighing 500 tonnes, was assembled in the construction site close to via Siffredi and transported, rotated and installed in the designated location.
