First LNG-powered box ship docks in Pra'

The CMA CGM Iguacu is the first liquified natural gas (LNG)-fuelled full-container ship to call at an Italian port, docking at Genoa's PSA Pra' terminal.

The deployment of LNG is a groundbreaking step towards an increasingly environmental sustainable shipping industry worldwide, as it eliminates sulphur oxide emissions and reduces significantly both nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emissions, by 30%, in comparison to the use of conventional liquid fossil fuel.

The full-container vessel CMA CGM Iguacu is part of the latest-generation of green-fuelled ships, with a gross tonnage of over 150,000 gt, a capacity of approximately 15,000 teus, length overall 366 metres and width 51 metres, and features a dual fuel engine which can run on both LNG and on liquid bio fuel.
