The President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, Matteo Paroli, welcomed at the historic landmark headquarters of Palazzo San Giorgio, the French Ambassador to Italy, Martin Briens, during his official visit to Genoa to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of Alliance Française, the association promoting the long-standing cultural ties between the Ligurian capital and France.
Genoa, 10 November 2025 – The meeting offered the delegation, which included the French Honorary Consul for Genoa Luc Pénaud, with the opportunity to be briefed on latest developments at the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado, with a focus on the strategic role of the ports at the heart of the Mediterranean as southern maritime gateway to the major manufacturing and consumer areas of Northern Italy and Central Europe.
In the course of the discussions with Ambassador Briens, President Paroli illustrated the key characteristics of the ports governed by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority. Items high on the agenda were dedicated to the clean energy transition and an increased use of digitalisation.
An outline was provided of the sizable investment programme implemented by the Port Authority in the installation of onshore power supply facilities in both the passenger and cargo handling terminal areas, and on-site LNG plants, important measures undertaken to reduce sharply the CO2 emissions produced by port activities.
Special attention was paid to investments underway in intangible infrastructure, namely, cyber-security, automation and new AI-generated technologies, all designed to optimise port operations and port security across the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure.
