
In the course of the meeting, Commissioner Paroli illustrated the major characteristics and strengths of the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado, underlining the crucial role of the Port Authority, firmly committed to creating a stable business environment, as a catalyst for attracting both domestic and foreign investments.
At the heart of the discussion, a focus on the strategic qualities which can potentially sustain the Ports of Genoa as a Southern maritime gateway for Germany, actively integrating with the Northern Range ports, above all in the light of the current uncertainties which are disrupting global supply chains. The Western Ligurian Sea ports can also build upon their natural geographic position to serve as gateway to the boom underway in the emerging markets across Africa.
An item high on the agenda was dedicated to environmental sustainability and to the clean energy transition, with an outline of the sizable investment programme implemented by the Port Authority in the installation of onshore power supply facilities and on-site LNG plants, designed to reduce the CO2 emissions produced by port activities. Innovation in the development of sustainable sources of energy was pinpointed as an area of possible mutual cooperation by Ambassdor Lucas and Commissioner Paroli.
