While the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority (AdSP) and port cluster operators work to consolidate institutional and commercial relations with Switzerland, future logistics professionals from the Canton of Ticino devoted a study morning to topics related to shipping and intermodal transport.
Students from the third-year logistics course at the Centro Professionale Tecnico (CPT) of Bellinzona attended a lecture delivered by officials from the Port Authority. The session focused on the evolution of maritime transport in today’s global context, characterised by increasing geopolitical uncertainty, conflicts, and customs policies that affect international supply chains.
During the meeting, the speakers outlined the new challenges and opportunities facing the logistics sector, highlighting the need for solutions that are more resilient, sustainable and flexible.
In this context, the Ports of Genoa reaffirm their role as a strategic maritime gateway for the Swiss logistics system, offering a competitive and sustainable alternative to Northern European ports for the Confederation’s intercontinental trade flows.
With state-of-art infrastructure, continuously enhanced intermodal links and a network of specialised terminals, Genoa and Savona now represent a leading logistics hub for goods destined for the Swiss and Central European markets.
The collaboration between the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and the CPT of Bellinzona, active for several years, aims to bridge the cultural and operational gap between Swiss logistics and the Ports of Genoa. The partnership brings students and industry professionals closer together through targeted lectures, technical workshops, and on-site visits to Ligurian ports.
This educational pathway combines skills, experience and strategic vision, helping to shape a new generation of transport and supply chain professionals with a Euro-Mediterranean perspective.
The next visit is scheduled for May 2026, when CPT students will travel to Genoa for an on-site visit at port terminals and onboard operational vessels, supported by local training institutions and port operators.
“Investing in dialogue with Switzerland means strengthening the role of the Ports of Genoa as the natural gateway from Central Europe to the Mediterranean,” stated Matteo Paroli, President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority. “It is essential that younger generations understand the strategic value of the Ligurian port system and the opportunities it offers in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and global connectivity.
As I underlined yesterday at the ‘A Sea of Switzerland’ conference in Lugano, logistics has become a key field for young people — not only for its career prospects but also because it represents an area of innovation and responsibility for the future of mobility and international trade”.
