The third edition of “Navigating the Future”, a careers and training programme promoted by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority in partnership with Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises, has officially kicked off.
Targeted at secondary school students in Genoa and Savona specialising in modern languages, tourism management and maritime studies, the programme aims to raise awareness of the professional skills required onboard cruise ships, and provide high-school graduates with practical guidance on pursuing careers in the passenger liner industry.
Opening events held at the Port Authority headquarters of Palazzo San Giorgio in Genoa and at the Palacrociere Cruise Terminal in Savona drew 171 students from schools across Genoa, Rapallo and Savona. Port Authority, Costa and MSC management provided participants with a valuable insight into port operations and the cruise industry, highlighting the technical, linguistic and soft skills required for onboard positions, in addition to the wide range of professional profiles in a global sector that continues to grow and evolve. Contributions from industry specialists also provided students with a clearer understanding of career opportunities within the blue economy.
The programme will continue throughout April and May with guided visits aboard cruise ships calling at the Ports of Genoa and Savona, offering students a hands-on perspective of onboard organisation and operational dynamics.
“Navigating the Future” forms part of the Ports of Genoa’s broader strategy to invest in human capital and forge stronger ties between the port, the local community and educational institutions, whilst fostering a well-informed and forward-looking maritime work culture capable of meeting the future challenges of the cruise and port industry.
