The Ports of Genoa at Breakbulk Europe 2026 in Rotterdam, the main international event dedicated to the logistics of project cargo, exceptional cargo and bulk goods.
Ending today in Rotterdam was the 2026 edition of Breakbulk Europe, the leading international event dedicated to breakbulk and heavy lift traffic. The event brought together more than 12,000 professionals from more than 120 countries including industrial manufacturers, engineering companies, shipping companies and ports, logistics operators and service providers specialising in the transport of exceptional loads and general cargo.
In this context, non-containerised traffic is one of the segments of excellence of the Ports of Genoa, which in the first quarter of 2026 handled over 4.2 million tonnes conventional of goods (+7%), including Ro-Ro traffic (trailers, machinery and vehicles), breakbulk (project cargo, yachts, steel) + forestry products, and 880 thousand tonnes of solid bulk cargo (grains, minerals, fertilisers and coal), confirming the strategic role of the Ligurian port at the service of the Italian and European industrial supply chains.
In the space dedicated to the Ports of Genoa, within the stand coordinated by Assoporti, the Sea Port Authority participated together with a wide representation of companies and operators of the Genoa and Savona port-logistics cluster.
The discussions with the operators at the trade fair and during the conference sessions confirmed that the shipping industry is undergoing a profound transformation. Geopolitical uncertainty indeed continues to lead to high market volatility, requiring logistics operators to adapt quickly to continuous changes, from variations in energy costs and sea freight to the redefinition of sea and land routes up to the increasing difficulty in planning insurance costs.
In this complex, albeit quite promising scenario, the value of flexible, reliable and integrated logistics solutions across the entire transport chain emerges. Precisely in this context, the experience, specialisation and versatility of the Genoa and Savona Port Authority in the handling of a wide range of cargo represent an important competitive factor. The strong presence of Ligurian operators at the event demonstrates the willingness of the Ports of Genoa to consolidate and strengthen its position also in the breakbulk segment of the Mediterranean and Southern Europe.
