The statement of the newly appointed President of the Port Authority, Matteo Paroli, upon his designation: “I undertake this new role, as President of the Port Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea, with a profound sense of duty and pride, and I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the Italian Vice-President and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Senator Matteo Salvini, and the Vice-Minister, the Rt. Hon. Edoardo Rixi, for the trust they have placed in me. The responsibilities of this position are multifaceted and far-reaching, but I intend to face them with enthusiasm, in full recognition of the challenges posed by the volatile international situation and of the Ports of Genoa and Savona’s strategic role at the service of our country.
Our priority is to achieve full infrastructure development, already underway, and a review of the guiding principles of port governance to ensure that it is increasingly effective, timely and responsive to the needs of the local community. We shall strengthen the dialogue with the port operators, workers and trade unions, aware that only across constant and constructive dialogue can we successfully address the challenges that we face.
Our objective is clear: to ensure further and lasting development of the port range of Genoa and Savona-Vado, boosting the competitive edge of the maritime and logistics cluster, in a global market that today offers a multitude of new opportunities that have perhaps expanded compared to the past. Precisely for this reason, we believe that it is essential to invest now in digitalisation, technological innovation, energy research and in logistics, specifically across the strategic area encompassing Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna. This is a crucial pillar in the economic growth of the nation, with our ports as the natural maritime gateway to the European marketplaces.
I have full confidence in the collaboration between the public authorities, private operators and citizens: it is only by joining forces that we can transform challenges into opportunities and consolidate the role of our port range as a major driver for economic development and innovation. I wish to reiterate the importance of our cooperation with the Harbour Master, a key ally in ensuring the safety, efficiency and optimisation of port operations. A thought goes out to the Port Authority team, which I consider a major asset. Having overcome difficult times, today we are ready to move forward with determination, know-how and a profound sense of duty.”
