For the first time, Passo Nuovo and Albertazzi gates, dedicated specifically to ferry traffic, are open 24/7. The extended operating times have been introduced following the completion of the port gate tangible and intangible infrastructure works implemented by the Port Authority to upgrade access procedures across new gate automation systems, in compliance with national and international security regulations. Yet real-time monitoring of transits across the 14 port gates improves not only the level of security, but also results in a more sustainable and seamless management of the flow of vehicles and passengers across the port. In addition, the entire port area and borders are monitored from the renovated modern Security Control Room across a state-of-the-art video surveillance system.
“In anticipation of another busy weekend, measures have been taken to help keep the high volume of traffic flowing” - declares the Port Authority President Matteo Paroli – “The opening 24/7 of two port gates dedicated specifically to ferry traffic is a tangible sign of our commitment to satisfying passenger demands during peak travel season. Thanks to recent sizable Port Authority investments in technology and automation, the port access procedures today in place offer a greater level of efficiency and security, and interface in real-time with the local authorities to optimise traffic management during peak times.”
Furthermore, the gate in Via Milano, inaugurated in July 2024, will continue to cater for both port workers’ vehicles and ferry passenger vehicles until the conclusion of the roadworks in progress.
Finally, the automated full-height pedestrian turnstiles for port users and workers are now in place at the gates in Testata Molo Vecchio, Grazie and Passo Nuovo. For further information, please visit the Port Authority website www.portsofgenoa.com in the section How to find us.
