The Italian Ministry of Health has extended the authorisation of the Calata Sanità Control Post, located at the PSA SECH terminal in the Port of Genoa, to include specific categories of non-animal origin products, namely, ambient food and feed products.
The provision, published by the Veterinary Office for the Fulfilment of Community Obligations and Border Control Posts (UVAC-PCF) for Liguria, Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, broadens the range of goods eligible for inspection at the facility, marking a further step towards boosting the Ports of Genoa’s capacity to provide cargo handling services dedicated to food products. The expanded service will contribute to streamlining supply chain operations and ensure that the port can meet the operational requirements of businesses handling these categories of goods, whilst maintaining full compliance with the health and safety standards in force.
The new regulations form part of a broader programme initiated by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority to enhance the efficiency of cargo inspection activities at the PSA SECH terminal. On 28 May 2026, the Port Authority Management Committee approved the construction of a new cold-storage cell at the terminal’s Border Control Post. Designed to support the inspection, sampling and analysis of frozen goods, the facility meets the requirements outlined by the Ministry of Health’s UVAC offices.
With this latest extension of the authorisation, the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the efficient and timely provision of official inspection services, safeguarding the ability of the Ports of Genoa to serve a broad range of cargo supply chains, in full compliance with public health regulations and inspection procedures.
