New RMG electric cranes delivered to the port of Genoa's VTE

17 September 2018 – The new electric cranes arrived this morning at Voltri Terminal Europa (VTE) in the Port of Prà from China on board the Zhen Hua 19 vessel.

The cranes were built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC), a subsidiary of the China Communications Construction Company, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of port cranes and cargo handling equipment, and are set to replace the diesel-powered yard cranes. An order was placed for 21 RMGs (rail-mounted gantry) cranes, the first electric cranes to be deployed in the Ports of Genoa, as part of PSA Voltri-Pra’s 40-million euro investment programme. Gilbeto Danesi, CEO of PSA Italy, the Singapore-based terminal operating company, announced that today’s delivery of new electric yard cranes is confirmation that VTE port operations have not been disrupted by the tragic incident of the collapsed Morandi Bridge and that PSA Voltri-Pra continues in its firm commitment to invest in the Port of Genoa Prà. In fact, all 21 cranes will be installed in the Genoese terminal and will shortly be fully operational.
