Genoa climbs to 6th place in the Top Ten Med Cruise Port rankingThe report released by the travel and tourism industry consulting company, Risposte Turismo, indicates Italy as the Mediterranean's leading cruise destination in 2019 in terms of passenger throughput (homeport and transit), with the Italian ports handling approximately 40% of total traffic

This year four Italian cruise ports are poised to be listed amongst the top 10 in the Mediterranean, whilst nine Italian ports rank amongst the leading 20 cruise ports. In total the Italian ports are forecast to accommodate 8,959 calls and 23.79 million passengers, with an advance, respectively, of +8.9% and +9.5% over the previous year.
Specifically, Civitavecchia, with 827 calls (+8,8%) and 2.56 million cruise passengers (+4.9%), consolidates its second-place ranking behind Barcelona, with 838 calls (+1%) and 3.15 million passengers, whilst Venice is stable in fifth position with 1.55 million passengers and 500 cruise calls.

Genoa displays the fastest growth, climbing to 6th place with 1.35 million cruise passengers and 268 calls, an increase, respectively of +33.5% and +17% on the previous year. Naples jumps one place to 7th, with 1.23 million passengers and 456 cruise calls, reporting, respectively, a gain of +14.6% and +20.3% compared to 2018.
In the Top Twenty Med Cruise Ports, Savona is in 15th position, with 770,000 passengers and 162 calls, a decrease of -9.2% and -16.5%, due to works currently in progress to upgrade the Palacrociere Terminal.
