Port of Vado Rail Terminal expansion moves ahead

Construction works at the Port of Vado Ligure Rail Terminal, for the expansion of the yard and the optimisation of rail freight movements, proceed on schedule, as per project timeline.

The dedicated 20-million euro investment plan, carried out by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, foresees the introduction of a fourth railway track which will be equipped to accommodate the standard 750-metre European freight trains, thereby streamlining current loading/unloading operations and improving the efficiency of rail freight transport across the shunting facility which serves both Vado Gateway and Reefer Terminal. Plans are also afoot to install rail mounted gantry cranes to optimise future operations at the rail terminal.

The challenging rock works excavation, which has been completed on schedule, represents a milestone in the project progress towards the expansion of the shunting yard of the Port of Vado Ligure rail terminal and a further step towards an overall improvement in the road/rail modal shift across the port.
