Energy efficiency

Concrete measures to save energyrationalise consumption and produce energy from renewable sources have been implemented through the Port Environmental Energy Plan (PEAP).

The supply of energy shoreside to vessels berthed in the shipyards and the introduction of energy-saving measures, including the use of renewable sources, are already underway.

The optimisation and improvement of energy efficiency are also achieved through accurate consumption monitoring to create a database to be followed.

The gradual replacement of fossil fuels with other fuels from renewable sources (biomass and LNG) to reduce CO2 emissions in port areas and improve air quality is also under way.

Buildings managed by the Port Authority are subject to an analysis for energy certifications to carry out energy efficient renovation works.
Different technologies currently being examined by the PEAP (upgrading buildingssolar thermal and photovoltaic systems, use of biomasswind powergeothermal energy) are implemented alongside the activities conducted by the port operators, through the Energy Diagnosis of buildings and consumption that is used to identify optimal interventions.

In addition, the improvement of public lighting, by replacing traditional lights with low power consumption lighting (LEDs), is underway.

In line with the Green Port concept, a policy is being implemented that foresees the gradual replacement of standard cars with electric cars,  with the installation of charging stations in the port
