ILVA operates the Polcevera and Diga Aeroporto quays in the Port of Genoa, which furnish the company with the infrastructure needed for rapid and efficient cargo handling in terms of unloading of finished and semi-processed goods shipped from the ILVA steel plant in Taranto. With the closure of the hot steel activities in the Genoa steel plant, the bulk trade naturally dropped considerably.

In 2015 ILVA terminal handled 2,604,445 tons of steel products and 127,172 tons of solid bulk cargo.

Within the framework of the redevelopment programme of the Cornigliano area, ILVA Spa signed an agreement with Ansaldo Energia, one of the leading companies in the industry, to construct a hangar for the assembly of gas turbine engines which will subsequently be shipped overseas from the docks along the Polcevera.

The agreement will play a key role in providing the Port of Genoa with the opportunity to boost the handling of a new type of highly specialised project cargo trade, strategically important in terms of integration between manufacturing and supply chain management.
