The port system
Road transport
The Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado represent a maritime crossroads at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea for international trade and global supply chain business, bolstered overland by extensive road networks into Italy and across Europe. The Italian industrial heartland sits within a 300-km range of the ports: the major manufacturing and consumer centres in Milan (145 km), Turin (170 km), Parma (200 km), Verona (280 km), are all in close proximity.
To boost further integration with the global supply chains, the Port Authority is upgrading the last-mile road infrastructure across the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure to improve on-site terminal accessibility.

In addition, the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority is firmly committed to the promotion of digitalisation to reduce dwelling and transit times of heavy goods vehicles in the ports by developing smart port terminal gate access, mobile apps for truckers, including vehicle pre-notification booking systems, and a more intensive use of automated data exchange between all the stakeholders of the supply chain.
The Ports of Genoa’s plans for the future are all in place to strengthen its position as a modern multimodal hub to serve Europe overall.
